Six old men, one great candy company...
At Old Man Candy Company, our history is as unique as our candies. But two common threads tie our stories together: candy and love.
Gus
As the son of Italian immigrants, Gustavo "Gus" Manchetti led a tough life. From the time he was a young teen, Gus worked long hours at Harmony Mill, the textile mill that employed most of his fellow residents of Cohoes, New York. The work was hard, but Gus--as the oldest son in his large family--did what he could to help pay the bills and keep food on the table for his brothers and sisters. A tough life for a teenager.
But it was in the dirt and din of the giant textile mill that Gus met Sarah, a young girl who worked in the laundry, a girl who would change the course of young Gus's hard life. "At first, he didn't say a thing to me," Sarah recalls now, after sixty-plus years of marriage. "He just always seemed to be there at the end of the aisle when I came through with my laundry bins."
